Just turned in my philosophy homework…
…and I’m not too pleased. I had to submit it without completing the last two questions due to a combination of not knowing how to do them and leaving this assignment until now to complete.
What I learned: Don’t underestimate how long it’ll take to complete an assignment. Get started on it early, and give yourself plenty of time to finish. (I mean, it’s common sense, but apparently I need first-hand experience for it to sink in.) So if I were to apply that thinking to my editing assignment that’s due tomorrow, I’d tell myself that I shouldn’t wait until tonight to start on it. I can envision what might happen if I did:
Step 1: (12:00 a.m.) Be excited about starting assignment
Step 2: (1:00 a.m.) Get tired
Step 3: (1:10 a.m.) Check Facebook
Step 4: ???
Step 5: (4:00 a.m.) Get too tired to continue, convince self to finish once waking
Step 6: (7:30 a.m.) Wake up
Step 7: (8:00 a.m.) Wake up “for realz this time”
Step 8: (9:00 a.m.) Wake up
Step 9: (9:15 a.m.) Work on assignment, realize need to take bus
Step 10: (9:32 a.m.) Get on bus, work frantically on assignment
Step 11: (10:30 a.m.) Turn in assignment 57 percent complete
Step 12: (10:35 a.m.) Be disappointed in self :(
I usually repeat that cycle a lot…
Okay, time to not repeat the cycle again. After I finish this editing assignment, I’m going to look forward to next week, when I have two midterms on Monday. Two midterms on Monday, and I’m going to start reviewing tomorrow. Not Sunday.
I can do this. Hoo-rah.
